Merryland Sweater in La Bien Aimée Mondim

Merryland is the newest pattern by Soraya Garcia, a Spanish designer now based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Her new pattern features La Bien Aimée Mondim

I remember meeting the designer late last year before the pandemic hit. Soraya was getting ready to move to Amsterdam and I could sense her excitement for the big move. We had worked together before for a design in Pom Pom magazine. This collaboration was a bit more hands off for me as it was coordinated by Pom Pom editors. She designed a beautiful tunic style sweater called Faience in La Bien Aimée Merino Sport. I loved this design so much and I knew that I wanted to work with Soraya again.

Late fall 2019, I met Soraya at La Bien Aimée boutique to discuss some design ideas she had. She had made the most beautiful paintings of the sweaters she had in mind. I was completely mesmerised by her design process. We spent the afternoon laying out skeins and trying different combinations until we the marriage of Bois de Rose, Caramel and Sansa. The unique yoke motif is inspired by the British candy, Allsorts

My sample is made in the size 8. I used 4 skeins of Bois de Rose for the main color and one skein of Sansa and Caramel for the color work. I opted for the size that was closest to my bust size. I determined this by looking at the finished measurements of the sweater and picking the size the closest to my bust size. I generally like to wear my sweaters with 5cm or less ease. I customise the length so that it fits perfectly over my favourite dresses. In the photo above, I am wearing the smock dress by Not Perfect Linen
